The NSP Pro is a powerful data communications framework, which allows easy connection of serial port devices to a computer network (such as TCP / IP). A Network Serial Port appears to application software as a "standard" Window‘s Serial Port (virtually identical to an RS-232 port). Network Serial Port Professional (NSP Pro) - Components

  • PhysicalOnServerToSingle Utility - Places a Serial Port's (such as RS-232) bi-directional datastream on a single Network Socket using "server" Socket paradigms. These paradigms allow remote network clients to dynamically connect and disconnect (similar to answering a phone) to this datastream.
  • VirtualOnServerToSingle Utility - Places a Virtual Serial Port's bi-directional datastream on a single Network Socket using "server" Socket paradigms. A Virtual Port may be accessed by "serial port aware" applications (example: HyperTerminal). The server paradigms allow remote network clients to dynamically connect and disconnect from the datastream of the Virtual Port (this is similar to answering telephone calls).
  • PhysicalOnClientToSingle Utility- Connects the bi-directional data stream from a local Serial Port (such as RS-232) to another bi-directional datastream on a single remote network socket. Using socket client paradigms, this utility can select which remote network socket to connect (this is similar to dialing a telephone).
  • The VirtualOnClientToSingle - Connects a Virtual Serial Port's bi-directional datastream on a single Network Socket to another bi-directional data stream on a single remote Network Socket. Using "server" Socket paradigms. A Virtual Port may be accessed locally by "serial port aware" applications (example: HyperTerminal). Using socket client paradigms, this utility can select which remote network socket to connect (this is similar to dialing a telephone).

Hypothetical Data Flow Diagram

In the following hypothetical example, a serial device (in this case a modem on an RS-232 Cable) has been expressed using NSP Pro, across a network. The user of the PC in London can access the Modem in New York, named (for example), using the serial port name: COM-NY.
